The player takes control of four different soldiers all assigned to the 101st Airborne Division during their tour of duty in the Vietnam War. The narrator of the game, Harold Kahler, is the new medic, Frank Wier, leader of the group Bruce Lesh, the sniper, and Will Shafer, the machine gunner. Hoss and Junior immediately dislike Kahler, as he is dubbed a Fucking New Guy, however they also dislike each other. Hoss dislikes Junior because of his skin colour, and Junior dislikes Hoss because of his racism.
